Eat to Winterize 从秋贴到冬的“月票”

I truly feel the "Global Warming" this year. Till the beginning of Dec, we still have the sunny days close to 70s F.
Yes it's not that cold enough, but we never short of excuse to enjoy typical fall & winter eats.

吃这件事,是要一点折腾,一点借口,和一点勇气滴。




Pork Belly with Fresh Water Eel.
鳝鱼和五花。两种肥美,一样的长肉肉呀!
 
 



Cage free, Hormone free +etc. free chick, with mushroom & gingers. Tender sweetness, great meat texture.
好的食材,最简单的烧制就很可以出彩。 出国后才尝到小鸡炖蘑菇。这不是小鸡啦但肉质甜而有脆感,配上超新鲜的蘑菇和很嫩的姜尖尖,味道平实。



Chestnut Chicken.  I love my mom's fresh chestnut. Earth, sweet, perfect for the weather & season. One of my little one tells the younger one: that's a miniature of yam :)
板栗烧鸡。妈妈一颗颗剥来,新鲜的板栗真的不一样。与肥滋滋的鸡烧来,配得相得益彰。



Lamb! I love the New Zealand Lamb leg, so tender and naturally sweet. Cumin is the best pal to lamb. I always put tons of cumin powder and top with cumin seeds.
最暖人的肉是羊(鹿更甚,不过为什么我吃来总有点毛毛的)。配甜甜的红萝卜,好浓郁。
 
 
 
 

Lamb rib chops herb pot. The slow roast fragrant the whole house and my Sunday afternoon.
羊也是最不见料的。以前听着烤全羊,感觉豪情万丈的。真正烧过了就知道,要人多,一只还未必够哩!
 
 
 

 You just have to consider a steak fits all year around, at least in our house.
我们是牛仔的大本营,牛排这一道,不论天热天凉,那都是不可少嘀。





When it comes to seafood, fatty fish could be much appreciated!
我最爱肥美的深海鱼。简直就是吃肥肉,会滞到 ---- 为什么要吃鱼油丸?!



I love the chill fall evening with hot Sake, Grilled/Boiled Mackerels, good steamed sushi rice and Japanese pickles.
这是又小又肥的典范。超好吃的简单的秋刀鱼,唯一麻烦的是烤来味道重。家里就我和老大捧场。
 
 
 

 Boiled Trout. All fatty fish is getting into the best taste of the year.
这是超大又肥的鳟鱼。一大盆,一会儿就销光光。





Still catch the lobster season. This is a one person plate, and the tough-to-dig parts can turn any congee into a sweet fancy bowl in early next morning.
吃这些带壳的,就得大方些,这是一人份,就了好酒,撑坏啦。 转弯抹角的丢到慢烧锅里煲粥,第二天一早省事又美味。



Soup is a very good therapy food. Daikon and Virginia Ham.
这是最接近京华火腿的味儿拉。萝卜甜了,天还是凉下来了。

Chick, yam, fresh ginseng, and all herbs soup. My always go-to pot: travel, weather change, sick, home sick...
我的总是没吃够的人参淮山鸡汤。 
 
 

 




There are so many times in a great rush or has been a long long day but the kiddos refuse to dine out. Individual hot pot could be a life saver: one pot, including noodles/rice noodles/yam noodles, chicken broth/veg broth/turkey soup/pork bone soup, and whatever meat and vegetable choices: so you always satisfy everyone. Except the vent hood. The heat from six high BTU burners could burn my eyebrow if not careful.
个人小火锅是救急的法宝之一,就是火力全开急坏了抽风机,感应到紧急档,会响警报 ^^




Egg noodle with Beef tendon, Rice Noodle with Beef Flank. Heavier beefy soup goes well with dropping temperature. 面码粉汤都会来厚重些的。(就是更长肉肉些的啦)
 
 
 

OK, no hotter or faster than our traditional Hot Pot. Make a good soup base, you can be a good chef for whatever you can find from the fridge.
天凉怎么会少了火锅。看呐,猪和牛都肥得没有道德底线。



A Pumpkin Pie is always the first chapter of our fall eating sweets.
来个南瓜派吧,加些whip cream, 或是ice cream, 一下子秋的滋味,就近了。
 
 
 

Learning a new way to do super quick and easy and delish roasted sweet potato: 425F 30 min, cut in half, put butter+brown sugar, 10min. Yum!
烤番薯有寻到减时更好吃晋级版。这是两种一并烤来,还是红的甜!
 
 
 

When pans and pans of cookies comes out, my little ones know holidays are just around the corner. My fav this year: Strawberry and Macadamia.
今年爱上的是有草莓口味儿的。当这样甜滋滋的我也享受着,这美国的蜜罐子也就毕业了。
 
 
 


Beautiful sun bright up my chief kitchen in a lazy Sunday afternoon, I never be lazy, let's make a green onion pancake. Crispy out, juicy soft in with lots of salted green onion. There are only five things for this treat: flour, salt, water, green onion, and oil. Life is alike a pancake: simple and fresh could the best taste.
就是忙碌命。难得有一小时空闲,就折腾了两个饼。小孩老人都抢了吃。我这个曾经没有面粉一整年一样可以活滋润的南方人,面是真正门外汉,但葱是知道要足够的,要不就应证了梁实秋先生自己买足葱来请伙计和面的门道啦。



Oh my dear cup. Pick me up at any time: not the caffeine. but the smell reminds me to enjoy the very bit of relax whenever can.
我的咖啡越来越浓,开始不好收场了。





Fall into winter, it's also a great time to enjoy nice fruits from the backyard. I cannot wait to show off my hundreds of citrus yard this year :) Happy Harvest!
秋是收获季。在这里我们一路收成到冬天。
这马上要过去的一年,要不要算算自己的付出,还有收成是多少?
