Hometown Therapy

What is your comfort food? I've been lived out of my hometown much more years than I ever actual lived there. But still, there are chances and times, alike a thunder, I just must to miss her. My birth place meant quite a lot to my life. It's never easy not to miss about: whenever catch a news, see a picture, read a book, think about someone...

Bitter Melon Staffed w/Pork, Mushroom, Water Chestnut, and Herbs. This warm dish reminds me a lot my mom, hot summer, the childhood hates all bitter but loves meat, then once upon a day, just takes bitter melon as a must in life.

Home-made Jell-O w/Pure Sugar Syrup & mint. Super simple and nature. Those street stands under the shades in a hot and lazy afternoon with songs from cicadas.

Rice Noodle Bowl. It can be BF, lunch, dinner, mid-night snack, or anytime fix. Hot or cold, soupy or salad, and nowadays, East or West toppings.

Sour Bamboo Shoot & Beef Tendons. Outsiders could consider the smell hard to take. Alike anything with full characters, you either love it or hate it to death.

Fresh Water Bamboo Shoot w/Park Belly. Bamboo is a natural part to our everyday life. This is another special type though - only can be found within cold weather. I never got chance to visit back for holidays. Miss the dish ever since.

Grilled Pepper w/Garlic, black beans, & Vinegar. Truly simple and delish once I found out a cooking way involve oven :) The flavor of this dish is much of our typical: spicy, sour, garlic, black beans.

Stir Fry Green Pepper w/Pork. Yes, bring in some heat.

Way Hot & Spicy Beef Salad w/Bean Noodle. This is not our typical hometown dish. But my mom learns it from my favorite auntie from Sichuan, then it becomes one of her best. Enjoy it all the time.

Pork Belly Bowl w/Mustard. A memory of Spring Festival. We use taro typically. But love the dried mustard later on.

Chips! Home Made for Chinese New Year. Once my dad's new year treat to me, now my children's turn. I only do it during new year celebration, so becomes their top priority every year.

Home-made Cabbage Pickle. Another one roots from Sichuan. But I love it all the time.

Sweet & Sour Pork Feet Salad. My second hometown was a big city that for my college. This dish reminds me the best memory of it's famous mountain, and our school bus route.

Pork, Egg & Ginger in Black Vinegar Sauce. Best treat for a girl once shopping at the national famous "Lady's Street" of the south. Lonely, a lot of dream and hope.

My very charming hometown. As beautiful as within a dream.
